Semester SOJOURN Treks
Semester SOJOURN Treks
SOJOURN's are semester-long treks for students who desire to develop their inner life with Christ while exploring their leadership capacity within an accountable, encouraging community.
Four Paths
Each SOJOURN will consist of a four-path trek: Discipline, Service, Leadership, and Accountability.
Discipline
Sojourners will work toward forming and following a Rule of Life.
A Rule of Life is “an intentional, conscious plan to keep God at the center of everything we do. . . . The starting point and foundation of any Rule is a desire to be with God and to love him” -Scazzero.
Throughout the semester, we will help students discover how they best individually connect with God and set a rhythm of abiding connection.
Service
Sojourners will serve in the youth ministry and follow Christ's example of selfless service in all areas of life.
Philippians 2
"Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well. You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had"
Leadership
Sojourners will be given roles and responsibilities as the learn about their unique leadership style and capability.
Each semester, Sojourners will study a different leadership book. Sojourners will also be given opportunities and platforms to exercise what they are learning and help shape the youth ministry's programming.
Accountability/Mentoring
Sojourners will hold each other accountable for the semester trek requirements and Christian integrity.
The Sojourn trek is a commitment to the four paths listed. We will lean on each other to stay committed and responsible. We will hold each other accountable for finishing the trek strong. This will be accomplished both in and out of youth group.
Each participant will commit to a mentoring relationship with an adult and mentor a 5th-7th grader.
Commitments
If you sign up for this semester Sojourn, you are committing to the following:
*Meeting requirements include (but are not limited to) already finishing reading, keeping in touch with your sojourn partner, etc.
