Prom of the Stars 2020, was a huge success! Thanks for all who came, all who gave, and all who served, we couldn't do it without you.
Additional Prom Photos are available here.
Here is something Shannon Warden wrote about the 2018 Prom:
night, I saw Jesus. I saw him in the beautiful faces of 1,000 dancers
in wheelchairs and walkers and what the world calls broken genetics, but
in reality is the likeness of Christ. I saw Jesus in volunteers who
openly embraced strangers and were reunited with old friends from last
year. I saw Jesus in volunteers who held the hand of a girl having a
medical emergency and in one who comforted her lost friend and in
another who danced and mixed music for hours without stopping. I saw
Jesus in the face of children who are growing up learning that this is
what loving your neighbor looks like. I saw Jesus in the weary
caregivers who got to laugh and connect with others who do their
impossible, and often lonely work. I saw Jesus in the food servers who
went above and beyond to ensure ALL of our guests were fed to their
specific needs, including happily puréeing and chopping meals for those
who needed it. We ask in this hurting, broken, divided, lonely world
where Jesus is? Look around...look around...he's here. YOU ARE THE BODY
Prom of the Stars 2021 has been scheduled for Saturday, February 27, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 at the Knoxville Convention Center!
WHAT IS PROM OF THE STARS?
Since 2003, Farragut Christian Church has organized the PROM OF THE STARS, a Free Prom for physically and mentally challenged individuals, ages 15 and older, which is totally supported by the community.
WHEN IS PROM OF THE STARS?
The prom is held annually, for 2021 the date will be February 27.
WHERE IS THE PROM OF THE STARS?
The prom is held at the Knoxville Exhibition and Convention Center in downtown Knoxville.
WHY TAKE ON SUCH A HUGE EVENT?
There are 59.5 million special needs individuals in the United States, about 20% of the population. In Knox County, approximately 71,000 people live with a physical or mental challenge. Like most people, they desire the same opportunities as others in our community have, with chances to participate in a variety of activities. Why would you ignore 20% of the community in which you live?
HOW CAN I REGISTER TO COME AS A GUEST OR TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP?
The registration forms will be mailed out around January 1 to those who have participated in the past. Call Farragut Christian Church at 865.966.5224 or email Dena Cunningham at firstname.lastname@example.org
to have a form mailed to you. Volunteer registration for 2021 will be posted in February. Space is limited for guests and for volunteers.
HOW CAN I HELP PROM OF THE STARS?
